Hello Conrad, why does your name sounds german whereas your profile shows you as italian?
In another thread you look for company for a trip from Budapest to Odessa and here you are asking for Odessa to Tulcea, the other direction...?!?
What is the way you like to go?
Best regards Jörg

Hi Jorg, you're right, I'm italian, my real name is Corrado but, as nickname and just to appear a bit more international, I've registered as Conrad ... never mind! However good question what's the actual direction. My planning is to go from Budapest to Tulcea along the Danube (i.e. basicaly along the Eurovelo_6 path) and then to carry-on in the direction of Odessa . I'm also considering the opposite way simply because for me it's easier to fly to Odessa from Milano and then, once in Budapest, it's very easy to take the train back to Italy. I checked on Goggle Maps but, either due to international border restrictions, no-bridges and Danube delta complexity, it doesn't appear so simple to reach Tulcea. Any idea? Ciao. Corrado

I have no idea, but I`ve made the Danube from Wien (Vienna) to Belgrad, and I am interested in the same trip as you are. The problem is that next year my favorite-journey is another one, but that might change Anyway, eastern europe is always interesting for me. Maybe I contact you again. My age is 47. Jörg

Interesting your experience. For me the trip Budapest-Odessa is the last part of the path "Atlantic-Black Sea". I completed the first part, St.Nazaire(F) to Budapest(H), last September. Hope to hear from you again. Corrado

It depends The least annoying is the border between Ukraina und Romania in Siret. I've made this in 2001. But it is not the direct route. Ivo made a trip through Moldavia and Pridnostrowje/Transdnistria, the more direct path. But this was not very amusing. He wrote a few words about this in German Feel free to contact him. Regards, Michael

Thank you Michael, unfortunately I suspect that Siret is totally out of my route, as far as Pridnostrowje/Transdnistria are concerned I couldn't find them on Google Maps. Cyrillic doesn't helf so far ... . Perhaps the spelling is different .... Corrado

Hi Corrado, it is called Transnistria Unfortunately there is little information from this region. I don't know if there is a border crossing from Moldavia to Ukraina. In the Year 2004 IVO had to go through Transnistria. The capital seems to be Tiraspol, if you want to search in Google for it. Another possibility is a ferry to Odessa. But i think that you want to cycle this way. Regards, Michael

Thank you Michael, .... really very hard to understand such a level of dissolution of the USSR. I've been reading that Transnistria is today a sort of secessionist republic trying to get independance from Moldovia. Perhaps better to investigate a little bit more prior to depart ... things seem to be changing very quickly over there ... Ciao. Corrado

.... this should avoid useless headaches crossing Transnistria border .... drawback is that the road seems to stop at Izmail (Ukraina) . .... or perhaps it might be possible to take a ferry without winding-up the Danube till Giurgiulesti-Galati ... who knows !!! Odessa-Tulcea [ ? ].

A late reply, but Julius "the butcher" came last week back from his tour. He rode the way from Odessa to Ismail and further to Galatsi. The road is fair, not much traffic. There are no problems at the borders. There is a road at the Dnister-delta, so there is no need to go to Moldavia there. Only at Giurgiulesti you have to enter Moldavia fo some hunded meters.

Hi Conrad, in Ismail could be a ferryboat, but this is not very possible. The landtour to Galat(s)i is possible. regards, Michael
