From Yalta to Baku, the journey continues to the East ...

For upcoming April/May (2014) I’m planning to continue my previous trip (Budapest-Yalta) this time from Yalta to Baku.
Has anyone suggestions on a possible, possibly safe and feasible route ?

The indicated route isn`t possible. Abkhazia is already closed.
There are just 2 ways to go. First via Wladikawkas through the Darial Gorge.
And second crossing Dagestan to Azerbajian. Border crossing is direct at the coast of the Caspian Sea.

Underway in China

I recommend you doing the Vladikavkaz route. The pass is 2300 meters high but despite being the main gate from Russia into Georgia, traffic is moderate and scenery is amazing. You will pass through Kasbhegi one of Georgia's major tourist sights and Tbilisi which is worth a visit
