Hi,

I'm planning a trip from South Africa (leaving Johannesburg or Pretoria) to Morocco, or as close as I can get in a year's time. The idea is to cycle up to Nairobi and perhaps fly across to Yaounde - depending on whether the area in between is safe to cycle through - and then to go up the 'bulge' of West Africa ending in Rabat. I'm planning on leaving either in late December 2004 or early January 2005, flying back by the same time a year later.

I would much prefer to have some company on at least parts of the trip, than to do the whole thing solo. Anyone interested?

Sean

Afrika...

Sounds like a dream to me...

I always wanted to do a trip that lasts 6 months or longer. Are you a millionaire or how do you pay it, if you want to answer that question? For months and years I have been thinking of a possibility to earn some money on the way.

A millionaire i'm definitely not. However, I think cycling around Africa is probably one of the cheapest trips you could take, with cost of living being as low as it is.

Basically the answer to your question is that I have some savings and i'm saving more this year. I had considered trying to earn money as I go, but I don't think there's that much employment around - especially of the casual type - and I doubt if it would be that well-paying anyway.

The advantage of travelling around wealthier regions: Europe, North America, South-east Asia and Australasia is that you can do the work-travel thing. But I feel the need to travel my own continent first, and anyway as I said, it's cheaper.

Cheers,
Sean
