Hello every body and happy new year!
grin
I´m going to Patagonia the 17 of january until the 7 of march. My idea is to join San Carlos de Bariloche with Torres del Paine national park by bicycle in a solo trip, but I don´t have clear wich direction is the best; from north to south or the opposite, I would like to avoid as much as possible the strong winds in this area. Does anybody know which is the main direction of the wind in this season of the year? I read in one web that the wind is north-west but in another is south west! Help me please! Thanks and have a good time.

hi there

i just got to ushuaia yesterday. i cycled the carretera austral and crossed at chile chico - los antiguos into argentina. from there to rio gallegos and to ushuaia.the wind came only from west-northwest, so i had mostly tailwind. just the last hundred kilometers to ushuaia were towards west and against some strong headwind. all the cyclists i have met complained about the headwind they had to fight against. i would highly recommend north to south.
if you want further information on conditions send me a pm.
have fun on your trip and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
take care
pat
