Hi there,

I am going to cycle from Cape Town to Cairo, beginning early March 2019. This is the route, roughly planned: South Africa, Lesotho, South Africa, Eswatini (Swaziland), Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt. I have in total seven months for this. All together it's gonna be roughly 14,000 km, broken down into 2,000 km each month. I expect it to be rather 3,000 km I'll be doing each month, meaning that there would be sufficient time in that case to continue via Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, (ferry), Turkey and so on towards Germany. But that's only an option, the main target is the pyramids.

From a climate point of view it's going to be relatively ok. The route is planned in such a way so that I'll never be during temperature or rain extremes in those countries. Only in Sudan it might get hot. But so what, it's gonna be a hell of a ride! wink

In 2015 I cycled for a few weeks through Zambia, Botsuana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Cycling in Africa is simply awesome, I have the best memories of this tour. And back then the idea came up in me to do the great tour - from Cape Town to Cairo. Why not the other way round? I prefer reaching closer home with each kilometer I am doing. And why not the direct route? I am a country-collector, bevor I die I want to have visitied each country in he world. As of end 2018, I have travelled 120 countries so far, many of those by bicycle. This tour is a great opportunity to reach further.

A few facts about myself: I live in Düsseldorf, Germany, am 36 years old and love to cycle.

In case you're interested to join for parts or the entire tour - I am happy to get your message!

Best regards,

Dave
