I just enter China yesterday (from Sari Tash to Kashgar).
About the border, there are 3 checkpoint but the last one is the really one ( so I don't understand why there are 2 more before that). After the first checkpoint we can't ride bike and have to get a lift ( but at moment Kyrgyz people block somewhere before Sari Tash around 65 km to Osh, so there is no car between China and Kyrgyzstan, so far already around 8 days and don't know how long will take. So we only can pay for 100RMB each from first to the third checkpoint, around 100 km). After third , you can ride bike around 100 km to Kashgar or pay 30RMB come over here, I took the second one
