We are planning our first non-States trip for August and are trying to put together our riding plan for a Southern France tour.

We'd ultimately like to ride from Bordeaux to Carcassonne, but thus far i've had zero luck finding any maps, tips, etc. that doesn't include taking the main expressway.

I'm concerned if we take the busier ways we'll miss alot of the scenic routes that are located between the two points. Does anyone know of a route or tourism committe would be able to give us a reliable map. Thus far i've found routes, but nothing connecting the two.

Thanks.

SI

hi SI,
do you know the "michelin" maps? the cover is yellow and they are 1:200.000 (so if you think in feet or something: 1 centimeter in the map represents 2 kilometer in nature). this is very good and we already did four bicycle holidays in france with these maps, on smaller roads...
greetings, stephanie

greetings, stephanie

the michelin-maps are the best you can get for France (and most of the neighbouring countries)- unless you want to travel gravel roads and forests paths only, which is not necessary in the french outback. You willl be perfectly happy with small roads( the white and yellow ones in the map), there is not too much traffic and most of the drivers are careful about bicycles. You can buy the michellin maps nearly everywhere in France ( gas stations, tobacco shops, food stores) but you may want them in advance to plan your journey, so you may want to visit their homepage, which is: www.michelin-travel.com.
I wish you a great holiday
