Most sturdy and durable are double walled rims.
Two good brands are Rigida

http://www.mavic.comSome worldtravellers have had problems with the rims from mavic (splitting of the wheel around the spokes).
Good tires are produced by Schwalbe followed by Continental (more prone to punctures)
