VANCOUVER TO ARGENTINA ..getting started - 03/03/07 03:53 AM

My friend and I plan to take next year off to ride our bicycles down the west coast to Argentina, and back up the east coast to Canada and then across the country - ending back in Vancouver.
We are also planning a 100 mile diet for the entire duration of the trip; promoting local food and community living.
I guess you could say we're riding in the name of 'sustainability' - what ever that means.. global awareness, de-motorize your soul etc.
We'd like to fund the trip with sponsors, grants and through fundraising.
Do you have any thoughts as to where to start? How do we approach businesses?

We're all ears if you have a minute to let us know what you think.

This sounds like a wonderful trip. You should check out the Otesha website at www.otesha.ca. They do tours in Canada that are similar to what you are planning. The Seirra Youth too, but I don't know thier website.

I hope this gives you a start. All the best on this.

Hi,
wow, doing that trip and also doing the 100mile diet together that is amazing!

I'm in Victoria and maybe my travel web site will help you plan your trip through the states.( www.toomuchtime.de in german and english)
I also just started www.ecofurniture.ca maybe by the end of this year we can talk about a small sponsor ship. will you have a website?

keep me up to date!

Hi,
one thing i just noticed on your block--you just got a bike from recyclistas, that is a great way to go! supporting local small businesses and buying used it can't get much better smile

but i still would like to give you guys a few pointers about your gear:

panniers: only ortlieb--i know they are super expensive, but nothing worse then having wet clothing after a rainy day!
also make sure you have the proper wheels for heavy loads, otherwise you have to bring lots of extra spokes on your trip! go to fairfield and show them your bike--they are really good in there and know what they are talking about!

anyhow, if you need more information, then just drop me a line i'm more then happy to help you guys!

keep me updated!

Hi girls,

perhaps there are some intressting websites for you:
www.katiebetsybiketrip.blogspot.com - two girls cycling in south america, 8 month
www.spinningsouthward.com - three boys cycling the panamericana, 14 month
www.danigrab.com - one guy cycling the panamericana, 14 month

all websites are in english. All of them, especial the two girls, are great. You can ask them, if you need some information. My brother and I met them while cycling the panamericana. But our site is only in german (www.traumtreter.de).

Great thing.
